July 8 – Ward 11 E-News Update

 A big thanks goes out to all the volunteers who helped make this year’s Canada Day celebration at Weston Lions Park a huge success! It was a great event with fantastic fireworks and fabulous performances by local artists. Thanks also goes out to the community organizations that participated and to all the members of the community who came out to the event. We hope you all had a good time!

 Overnight On-Street Parking Permits Now Available

City of Toronto residents can now obtain a temporary on-street parking permit for their guests for either a 24-hour or a 48-hour time period.  Permits, which are required for vehicles to be parked on streets designated for permit parking, can be obtained online. The cost for a 24-hour permit is $8 while a 48-hour permit is $12.  To get a permit, applicants need access to a computer and printer, credit card, and a couple of minutes to fill out some basic information online. The simple, step-by-step procedure can be found at http://www.toronto.ca/transportation.  Weekly on-street parking permits can also be obtained through this method. Residents can also apply for an overnight on-street parking permit in person at Toronto City Hall, Etobicoke Civic Centre and East York Civic Centre.  Access, Equity and Human Rights Awards – IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO NOMINATE SOMEONE!!!

The City of Toronto’s Office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights has extended the deadline for nominations for the 2011 Access, Equity and Human Rights Awards until Monday, July 11.  These awards are given to people or programs that have worked towards eliminating discrimination and barriers to equality.  All nominees must be residents of Toronto, a service provided for city residents, or a building located in the city serving Torontonians. Nomination forms and more information can be found at http://toronto.ca/civicawards. Recipients will be announced in the Fall, and the awards will be given out at a ceremony on November 24.

 Recruitment for City Tribunals and Board of Directors Underway – DEADLINE TO APPLY IS JULY 11TH!!!!

It’s not too late to apply for a position on one of the City’s tribunals and/or boards of directors. Attached is the list of the boards with positions to be filled, along with information on how to apply.  Let’s get some Ward 11 residents involved!

Please note that in order to be eligible to apply, you must be a Toronto resident, at least 18 years old and cannot be an employee of the City or its Agencies, nor the spouse, child or parent of a City Councillor, can apply.  Other requirements can be found on the application form for each board and board information on the City website.

 Summerlicious, Toronto’s City-Wide Culinary Celebration, July 8 to 24

Summerlicious, one of the “must do” events of the summer, starts today and ends July 24th.  Get out and experience some of Toronto’s finest cuisine at exceptional value. Restaurant details and menus for this popular prix fixe dining promotion can be found at http://www.toronto.ca/summerlicious. Three-course prix fixe lunch menus are priced at $15, $20 and $25 and dinner is priced at $25, $35 and $45. Reservations are strongly recommended and are to be made directly with the participating dining establishment. Visitors to the official Summerlicious website at http://www.toronto.ca/summerlicious can locate and sort restaurants by price, neighbourhoods and cuisine, and share their list through social media. An interactive map lets visitors find Summerlicious restaurants across the entire city.
